I Gave You Three Quarters, You Gave Me Your Card

Ding....ding....dingding. The sound cut through the festive country music playing at Big Bubba's Bad BBQ. I turned my head to the left and saw a waitress, arms full of plates she had just cleared and an old man at the table. On the ground lay three quarters.

I looked at the quarters for a second then I picked them up, returning them to the old man's outstretched hand.

"Thank you, darlin'." I smiled then turned back to my meal.

About ten to fifteen minutes later, I felt a tap on my right shoulder. An older woman handed me a card. She said she had found it at her hotel. The card was a coupon for Big Bubba's. It read:

"Good for one free tower of onion rings worth $8 AND a bull ride worth $3!"

Time to Take Another Shower

It was a backyard swimming-and-BBQ 4th of July and the family was having a blast! The ladies, the smallest cousins and their parents had gone in first. The "adolescent boy cousins" waited until the late afternoon to join. One of my younger cousins had been in the pool from the very beginning of the party to the very end.

The breeze was starting to pick up, so everyone was out of the pool and showered except for this one cousin. He was helping my aunt to push all the swim noodles and floats to the side for storage. My brother was taking a shower at the poolside when he saw my cousin bobbing up and down.

My aunt, in dry clothes, had been on the side of the pool and she also saw my cousin's quiet distress. She reached for one of the pool poles but could not take it off of the hanger because it was covered in swimsuits hung out to dry.

My brother had just finished his shampoo, soap, etc. but he made the quick decision to jump into the pool. With my cousin under his arm, he swam to the side. Warm towels and loving arms were waiting.

My cousin was safe, and Matt went back for a second shower.
